STUDENTS in primary and secondary schools in Air Itam who have registered under the Penang Government’s Golden Student (Pelajar Emas) scheme are urged to claim their RM100 payout by Friday.
Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai said there were 2,180 registered students in the Air Itam constituency and of the number, 1,346 students had redeemed the vouchers.
He urged the remaining 834 students to redeem their vouchers.
“If they fail to redeem by this week, they have to wait until October for the second round,” he said after giving out the RM100 vouchers at the Maybank Kampung Baru branch in Jalan Air Itam yesterday.
He said the first batch of payouts was from May 19 to Friday, while the second batch would be in October.
“The eligible recipients are children in Year One, Year Four, Form One and Form Four in Penang schools,” he said.
He added that to redeem the vouchers, the students should bring the redemption letter, birth certificate or identity card (Mycard) and parent’s identity cards.
Wong said they could claim the money at the Maybank Kampung Baru branch in Jalan Air Itam from 10am to 3pm.
He added that in Penang, 37,000 students had registered for the scheme.
“The aid is to reduce their financial burden and to encourage the schoolchildren to get the necessary materials for their studies,” he said.
Parents who want to register for the second batch of payouts on behalf of their children can do so at the service centres of any Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen or constituency coordinators.
